Climate of Nepal

Autumn (September–November)

Peak Trekking Season
Autumn is widely regarded as the best time to trek in Nepal. The monsoon rains have cleared, leaving the skies crystal clear and the landscapes lush and vibrant. With comfortable daytime temperatures and dry weather, it's ideal for exploring popular routes like the Annapurna Circuit, Everest Base Camp, or Langtang Valley. This season also offers spectacular views of the Himalayan peaks, colorful festivals like Dashain and Tihar, and bustling trekking trails.

Spring (March–May)

Second Best Season
Spring is another excellent time for trekking, known for its pleasant weather and breathtaking natural beauty. The hillsides come alive with blooming rhododendrons, magnolias, and wildflowers, adding vibrant colors to your journey. The days are warm, and the skies are generally clear, although slight haze may occur in the afternoons. This season is ideal for treks such as the Annapurna Base Camp or Manaslu Circuit.

Winter (December–February)

For Adventurers and Quiet Trails
Winter in Nepal is cold, especially in higher altitudes where temperatures drop below freezing. However, it’s still a rewarding time for trekking at lower elevations or for those seeking solitude. The skies remain clear, offering incredible mountain views, but high-altitude passes like Thorong La on the Annapurna Circuit may be snow-covered and impassable. Treks such as Ghorepani Poon Hill, Langtang Valley, or the lower Everest regions are great options during winter.

Monsoon/Summer (June–August)

For Nature Lovers and Off-the-Beaten-Path Trails
The monsoon season brings heavy rains, especially in the mid-hills, making trails slippery and leech-infested. However, this is a fantastic time for treks in rain-shadow areas like Mustang or Dolpo, which remain relatively dry. The landscapes are lush and green, and the waterfalls are at their most spectacular. While trekking during the monsoon requires preparation for rain, it also guarantees fewer crowds and a unique experience.

Choosing the Right Season

Autumn and Spring: Best for first-time trekkers and classic routes.

Winter: Perfect for quiet, scenic lower-elevation treks.

Monsoon: Ideal for seasoned adventurers exploring remote, arid regions.

Each season in Nepal offers a distinct trekking experience, ensuring that adventurers can find something special no matter when they visit.

Nepal has four major seasons:

(1) Winter: December-February

(2) Spring: March-May

(3) Summer: June-August

(4) Autumn: September-November

All seasons have something to offer in Nepal. The monsoon runs from around the end of June to the middle of September. About 80% of the annual rains fall during this period, leaving the remainder of the year dry. Spring and autumn are the most pleasant seasons and in winter temperatures drop to freezing with heavy snowfall in the mountains.
